Gram Refrigeration – HFC free for 10 years |
|
The regulation of refrigerants has changed dramatically over the past ten years, following on from continued research into the damage they cause to the Ozone layer and their contribution to global warming.
Whilst HFC refrigerants such as HFC R134a and R404 became the alternatives for many manufacturers after the ban on harmful CFC and HCFC refrigerants, the same cannot be said for Gram. Refrigerants such as these still have a significantly negative effect on the climate, despite being considered market standards. Putting in place a research and development programme to find a more environmentally friendly alternative, in 2002, we started to substitute HFCs for natural hydrocarbon refrigerants R290 Propane and R600a Isobutane. Since then, we have been manufacturing HFC free refrigeration across a number of our commercial solutions.
Refrigerants continue to come under increasing scrutiny by regulating bodies, with the European Commission preparing to introduce important new controls on some of the most commonly used refrigerants in the not so distant future.
Finding ways to make our refrigeration equipment more sustainable continues to be as important today as it was a decade ago.
